Available Internships

 

Operational & Communications Intern:

This person will maintain social media accounts, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. This person will also be responsible for updating the website through the squarespace platform. This person will be responsible for updating and maintaining a contact list for the organization as well as drafting monthly newsletters. The social media & communications intern will ensure that accurate and timely information is distributed on public platforms. This internship will be done on site in New Orleans.

Time commitment: 10-15 hrs/week, flexible timing for individual projects

Community Engagement Liaison:

This person will work on coordinating The Closet, a space for formerly incarcerated women to access resources free of charge. They will ensure that the space is adequately stocked and help women who come to use the services. In addition, this person will work on community initiatives to ensure that the public is aware of the work that Operation Restoration is doing and how to become involved. This may entail attending events, drafting updates, or speaking with other community organizers. Additionally this intern will be responsible for organizing volunteers. This internship will be done on site in New Orleans.

Time commitment: 10-15 hrs/week, flexible timing for individual projects

Women FIRST Clinic Intern:

This person will assist in the preparation and class operations of the GED/HiSET class that we offer once a week. They will act as a TA for the teacher and assist with lesson plans, curriculum building, and administrative tasks to support the teacher and tutors that work with the students. The intern will also assist with transportation of the students if needed and will need reliable transportation. This intern will also assist with The Closet if class prep is complete.

Time commitment: 5-6 hrs/wk, Tuesday or Thursday evenings

LPEC Intern:

Louisiana Prison Education Coalition is a growing group of community members, organizations, and policy makers dedicated to providing accessible, quality education for individuals involved with the criminal justice system. This intern will assist in the formalizing of this coalition through communications and attending community events. In addition, they will assist with the Women FIRST clinic, a twice a week class for formerly incarcerated women that prepares them to take the high school equivalency exam. This internship will be done on site in New Orleans.

Time commitment: 10-15 hrs/week, flexible timing for individual projects

Task Force on Women’s Incarceration Intern:

This intern will assist with research and assignments related to the Louisiana Task Force on Women’s Incarceration. This intern will attend monthly meetings in Baton Rouge with the Task Force to take notes and disseminate relevant information after the meeting. They will assist in research related to the policy objectives laid out by the task force and ensure that all members of the Task Force are provided with the information in a timely manner.

Time commitment: one year internship, 10-15 hrs/week, flexible timing for individual projects
